NAO Catalog - Lamps

As in the regular Lladró colllection, many of the lamp bases use existing models from the figurine collection. In comparison to the regular Lladró collection, however, NAO retains many more lamps in current production.

Lladró's NAO uses certain "conventions" or common elements to signal its thematic intent; shepherd girls are usually wearing white kerchiefs and aprons, most of the girl children are wearing long brown skirts or dresses with long brown skirts, etc. In the case of lamps, the convention is that the stem of the lamp is made to appear as a tree trunk. Only later in the development of NAO lamps has the company begun to vary that convention as indicated in the descriptions of individual items in the catalog list.

American collectors should be advised that all Lladró lamps, of whatever brand, are wired to accommodate European electrical systems and have to be re-wired for use in the United states. For those undeterred by the minor inconvenience, it's my understanding that the adaptation is fairly easily done, using a few inexpensive supplies from the local hardware store.

Anticipating another question, the original shades on these lamps are fairly generic, modest, nondescript, and imminently disposable. The shades rarely survive on the secondary market, but the value is in the lamp, not the shade, so the absence/replacement of the shade has no effect on value.
